District Governor Nominee -  Madhukar Malhotra

Rtn. Madhukar Malhotra is promoter director of River Valley Exports Pvt Ltd engaged in international trading and has offices in India and CIS countries. He is MS in Mechanical Engineering from University of Miami, USAand MBA from Marquette University, Milwaukee, USA, and has diverse professional experience in various corporates including a stint with the Planning Commission in Government of India. He has represented industry and trade in various committees of CII and PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

 

Born on 21st April 1945, Madhukar's father was chief engineer in J&K government who died in an unfortunate air crash in 1966. His elder sister is a doctor in UK and is member of Rotary Club of Newcastle North, while the younger sister Vijay Wadhawan is a past president of Rotary Club of Chandigarh.Younger brother Vinod is a member of Rotary Club of Panchkula.

 

Madhukar joined Rotary in 1979 and became the Club President in 1989-90, and later served the District in numerous assignments including as Assistant Governor in 2000-01 and District Secretary in 2003-04.

 

It was during his tenure that Rtn. Rajendra K. Saboo was nominated as President of Rotary International for the year 1991-92, and Rotary International allowed entry of women into Rotary.

 

A Paul Harris Fellow, Madhukar is the receipient of various Rotary recognitions including Outstanding Rotarian of the Year Award, Best Rotarian Award, etc. Because of his excellent links with the Rotarians abroad, besides finding matching grant partners for various clubs in our district, he has been able to organise a number of international youth exchange, family exchange programmes for the District. He was also responsible for organising Twin Club relations with Rotary Club of Lahore in 2003-04 and Rotary Club of Coral Gables in 2006-07 for Rotary Club of Chandigarh.

 

He has been the chairman of numerous District meets especially the intercities organised in honour of various visiting Rotary International Presidents to Chandigarh. He has also been the District Conference Chairman in 2003-04 Secretary during 1999-2000 Chairman PETS/SETS in 1998-99 besides having served as faculty at PETS/SETS and District Assemblies.

 

He has been GSE Team Leader to RI District 7190 in 1999-2000 and team leader of Rotary Family Friendship Exchange Team to RID 330 Malaysia & Singapore in 1987-88.

 

He is an active golfer and member of Chandigarh Golf Club, Kasauli Club, and founder member Secretary of Cheshire Home, a non-profit organisation established for providing assistance to homeless and physically challenged persons.

 

He has three daughters; all married, the eldest is a fine arts graduate settled in USA, while the second daughter is post graduate in mass communication and is a senior executive in a leading ad agency in New Delhi; and the youngest holds masters in IT and MBA. All his three daughters have been active Rotaractors. He is happily married to Neeru, an active member and past president of the Innerwheel club of Chandigarh.
